Vaccum Change

I have 71 360 with a holley 600 and having troubles the idle keeps fluxuating up and down at idle, timing is set a about 12.

What keeps happening is the idle will stay steady at about 900 then all of a sudden it will go down to about 700 then sometime it will go back up.

When driving it has no power behind as I think the vaccum is not advancing it they way it is suppose to. The vaccum line from the carb to the dis is tight and no leaks. What would cause it to lose vaccum and not work right?

Problem started about 1 mointh ago so I rebuilt the carb no change, changed out the dis with a new one no change and now I am lost. Any help would be greatful.

Thanks

Scott

Remove the spark plug coil wire on the distributor and check the color of spark, if spark color is orange replace coil. How are the point (check if thery are burnt) and condenser on the distributor. Replace PCV valve. Check all vacuum lines for cracks or an improper connection, R&R hoses.

Will check all that you listed, just replaced the dis with a duraspark setup.

Did you set the timing with the vacuum line disconnected and plugged?

When you setup for Duraspark ignition, did you run with the spark plugs for Electronic Ignition (1976 Ford F150 360 cid truck had Electronic ignition) and gap the spark plugs at 0.044 inch.
Question on the wiring of the electronic igntion (on harness with white and red wire at the module on driver side firewall) where did you hookup the red wire too and the white wire too?

Will have to change the plugs, did not know there was a diference. As for the wiring the red wire was hooked up to a 12v switched power that runs to the coil and the white was not used. From what I could tell is that it went in a loop to the netural safety switch which I do not have. I used the wireing diagram that was posted in a earlier thread.

Could the air fuel mix screws or the metering block have some effect on the ported vaccum port for fluxuation on the amount of vaccum coming out of it?

As for the wiring the red wire was hooked up to a 12v switched power that runs to the coil and the white was not used.
The white wire should have direct voltage, and the red wire should have the voltage when your key is on the start position. Run the red wire from the Starter Solenoid. The metal prong closest to the battery cable going to the starter.

Just to clarify for the red wire hook to the terminal next to the cable that goes to the starter.

On my duraspark, the red wire is 12v in 'run' position and the white wire is 12v in 'start' position. The white wire doesn't HAVE to be hooked up, but makes it start easier by reducing the timing advance when cranking - does not affect it once the engine is running.

lowcountry, thanks, https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=94669&width=0 On the harness on the module, notice on the two wire harness, the wire on one side is red and the wire on the opposite side is white. Vice versa for the other wire. https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...=94668&width=0

Thanks for the help

I used a different wiring diagram from here on the site.

I looked and yours and it had a blue wire going to the coil. Mine has the just a red and white wire coming out of the module.

do you have any other wiring diagrams

lowcountry, here you go, https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...d=5923&width=0
http://www.jason.fletcher.net/tech/duraspark/duraspark.htm

https://www.ford-trucks.com/user_gal...1&albumid=1232
On the two wires on the ignition module, the wire will change colors. White to Red, and Red to White.
