Quality Oil Filter...

Hello again, I am going to change the oil on my Explorer this weekend with Royal Purple of course and would like opinions on oil filters. Currently I think the best one I can find easily is the K&N brand which I have used. I also heard good things and have used the Mobil 1 Filter.

I am sure there are other filters out there that are great as well. On the other note I read that Fram filters suck as do champion and quaker state.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I've been using Motorcraft filters for a while and I'm very happy with them. They are recommended among FTE users.

Where'd that thread go that was just up about the Motorcraft filters? It's on FTE somewhere, and if you search Motorcraft, I'm sure it'll be one of the first ones to come up.

In a nutshell, based on what was said in there, go Motorcraft.

Sorry about the Champion sucks thing, maybe I read that wrong. I do know that they were not ranked at the top though.

Fram? Champion? Mobil?
Blondes? Brunettes? Redheads?
I'll take either one!

Whats wrong with the Fram filters? That seems to be the only kind they sell at the auto parts stores.

Re: FRAM

G'day All,

-for the real& gruesome lowdown on America's fav oil filter :

Engine Oil Filter Study
by Russ W. Knize

One weekend I set out to every auto parts store in my area and bought every brand of oil filter I could find. I chose to get the filter for the early Ford 5.0L V8 engine. The reason is that this is a popular filter, it is large so that I can unveil any fake miniature internal components, and it fits on most 2.2L and 2.5L engines. Design-wise it is fully compatible with our oil systems and is an excellent replacement for the pathetic filter that was designed for our engines. I was able to find 20 different filters spanning several brand names
'Disassembly and Measurements...
Basically, I cut open each filter on a lathe and took measurements of many of their attributes. Simply cutting them open revealed some very interesting (and disturbing) information.
