Information overload on shudder at idle
I have a 2003 sport trac 4x4, V6 4L, with about 48K. I am feeling a shudder in the engine while completely stopped, which is more prominent when the engine is cold. Basically, when I come to a stop, I feel an engine shudder that occurs every 5-6 seconds. Once the truck warms up, the shudder is sligt, but you can definately still feel it. I also notice that when the shudder occurs, you can see the radio antenna wobble. Once I start accelerating, the problem goes away, and ride and acceleration are both smooth.
The check engine light has never come on, and the truck has never stalled. But yesterday afternoon, I started the truck (cold start up) and at times while stopped at idle, I thought the truck was going to stall. RPM at idle in drive is about 600 or 700 rpm, while idle in park is around 900 RPM. When the shudder ocurrs, the fluctuation is slight, maybe a 100 RPM or less.
I can't figure out what is going on with the engine. The posts I have reviewed indicate that it could be IAC, MAF, throttle body, a problem with an air leak, or that I may just need to use some fuel injector cleaner or a new fuel filter. What has me stumped though is the fact that most of the posters with idle problems/shudders state that their check engine lights were on, while mine isn't.
If someone could narrow down what I need to check, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if I need to provide more info, just let me know. Thanks in advance.
Looking forward to your advice, and again, thanks in advance.
