Why the Sag?

I just traded in my Bronco for a 98 Explorer Sport. My Bronco was elevated more in the rear than the front. However, all of the Explorers that I see (including mine) sag in the back rather than the front. Seems like it would be the opposite since the engine weight is in front. Why is this?

If memory serves, the sports only have mono-leaf springs in the rear, so less weight capacity and the sag. You should be able to get a set from a 4-door at a salvage yard and swap them out.

Thas's right. It's best to find a leaf set out of a low milage 4-door. And if you still think it's a bit saggy in the back, you can always put an add-a-leaf in.

I agree that they sag, but part of it is optical, due to how the wheel wells are shaped. Measure front and rear bumpers to the ground to see how much sag you've really got.
Towing anything obviously will make it worse.

Yeah, when i first got mine i thought it looked low and we went out and were looking and i noticed the roof line made it look saggy, and the shape of the wells looked like it was saging, but we measured and it all was pretty close, so i'm not too worried about it, I might beef up the leafs just to have a higher weight capacity.

You'll get a harsher ride. I'm contemplating putting some timbrens in for the extra load situation, I tow a Seadoo sometimes with a tongue weight of about 200#. check out their website. the install looks pretty simple.

They sag and it's not an illusion. I replaced the mono rears in my 96 Sport with a set out of a 2001 4-door. Rides great now and the stance is correct.

I think the sports sag a little more in the rear because of the mono-leaf. Good to hear that you were able to 'correct' the problem.
