i all i have a 1995 f150 i like to go fast whats the easiest way to transform an old work truck to a tire squealing blur. its got a decent 5.0 but the automatic overdrive only stays in 2nd gear should i leave the truck as a work truck or attempt to transform her. thanks
i own a 96 f-150 with the 5.0. i also like driving fast. i would recommend tuning it. as a matter of fact i am getting ready to start buying performance parts for my truck. this week i plan on buying the k&n intake system for it. they say its a 10hp increase. then im going to get an exhaust system, more air in then more air out. after that i plan on getting an e.c.u. tuner and tune the gears. from those i will get anywhere from 20-35hp increase. and finally, after saving for a while, i plan on supercharging it. but thats what i want to do. other people would say make it a work truck, because fords run forever. but i think it would be cool riding around in a truck that nobody would expect to burn rubber.
Its so bad *** to see a truck kick some ricers ***. Like my friends ranger with a stroked and blown 427 (orignally a 351 crate) yes thats right hes getting about 900 in a 4X2 ranger. Its setup for the strip so we cant run it in the rain well its even cooler to do a hard clutch pop in the rain it breaks loose from idle. So yea I would get her smokin. But before you start any hard core stuff you want to make sure the block will go the distance. If you have a normal driver and just have the truck for a toy. Take the engine out and do a good over view of her. Then once you know its good. Make your bottom end bullet proof and then you can stroke and blow the hell outta it.
It's a good idea to set cost expectations first, and power second unless you have an infinite supply of money. If you're young and broke, you won't be putting a 427 motor into anything.
first things first get intake and headers and exhaust shes got to breath and exhale then i can decide to work or play i like both so i will probably take fredericks advice with exception of the vacation cant afford one of those
A friend of mine has an old F-100, 1982. The mot rattiest paint job you've seen, looks like it's falling apart. He's got a big block 460 in it, with cams, lifters, and a bunch of others. It's got 2 exhaust systems, with a switch in the dash to go from one to the other. One is nice and silent, other dumpes at the cat.
He loves pulling up to ricers, and smoking them. Then hitting the switch and it just jumps alive. It's so loud, I love riding in it, haha. But it did cost a small fortune. But I think it was worth it, haha. You'd never think it was fast, and it just smokes the ricers.
Find a Lightning motor and trans. they can be bought quite reasonabley . Put one in your truck and the problem becomes how to stop the tires from smoking.

My old dodge pickup was like that... bedsides flapping in the wind... black lines and smoke behind me.
Well, i think its nice to have a work horse around that can tow haul heavy things around every once in a while. However, if you dont really need the truck to do that, then making it a fast street truck wouldnt be all that bad. I would say biggest limitation is your budget. The parts are readily available and this site is great for information. If you dont have the cash to do it all at once, it can be a longer project. The 5.0 isnt a bad platform for modification. I love seeing these big trucks step up and beat little ricer cars. I will say that the best thing ive ever seen was a deced out civic getting smoked by f250sd diesel.
