carb to CFI conversion

this thread may ruffle a few feathers for any number of reasons. first off, im not brand loyal...i currently own 2 fords, 3 chevys, and 11 international harvesters.
i'm not rich, but i do seem to be a glutton for punishment

on to the meat of the subject...I have a 79 scout that i would like to graft a tbi setup onto. the engine is a low revving, high torque IH 304 that doesnt require alot of cfm. my objective is to be able to operate at extreme angles and start more reliably than the holley 2bbl carb does. i have done numerous searches and have come up virtually empty handed...other than the fact that the ford cfi setup seems to be widely "un-loved". i do have gm tbi conversions in progress on 2 other scouts and am very pleased with them. however i have just been given a good running 85ish crown vic with 302 cfi. the duraspark conversion on a scout (holley points type) distributor is straight forward and fairly easy to do...however im having a whale of a time trying to find info on the wiring harness etc for the cfi.

does the cfi setup use a knock sensor?

how can i delete things like the fuel shutoff (inertia switch)?

can i plug in all the sensors on the 304 and track down a couple of main power wires and ground to complete the wiring harness?

where would i find a diagram of vacuum lines and associated crap that has to be hooked up to make it work?

this will all be going on a non street legal vehicle that is strictly used off road. the engine doesnt need to do anything spectacular, it merely needs to run reliably.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to FTE!
You'ld probably be better off with the throttle body from the cfi setup with a megasquirt controller. The CFI controller also controlled the timing, and ran quite lean.

i have given alot of consideration to a megasquirt controller, but on a non-existent budget...thats out. are there any links where i might find more in depth info on the cfi?

The donor car should have the vacuum diagram under the hood.
I believe that you must run the TFI type distributor with the CFI electronics. They had no knock sensor. You can delete the inertia switch by just removing it from the harness and jumping the 2 wires together.
