I have used this forum to successfully replace the following items on my 1989 F150 4x4 302V8 5sp man. truck. I have replaced the valve cover gaskets, rear seal (incl. clutch, etc) and Oil pan/gasket. The last little oil drip left is coming out of where the dipstick goes into the engine block. Has anyone ever replaced one of these? If so, is there a recommended way to get the old one out? I really don't want to pull the motor and it seems as though it is accessible from the bottom of the vehicle. Any advice would be welcomed.
It is held in by a strap welded on the tube then running over to an exhaust manifold bolt. You remove it from the top. Now the fun part, at the exhaust manifold the bolt is made with a stud on top. The strap goes on this stud with a nut. This nut can be a big problem sometimes, It can come off OK or it can twist off the bolt in the head, the bolt can turn twisting the strap and breaking it.
I have taken the tubes out for replacement when the strap rusts off the manifold and when tearing down engines but never for an oil leak. This is not a place where you will get an oil leak unless it is hit by something.
