Found this truck on fleabay anf thought it would bear a look by someone who was looking for a truck. Bidding was about $50 today. Check it out for parts! or a project! The hood appears to be off a newer 46/47 truck. here's alink:
Looks like it might be a good starting point, if the work was done correctly. The hood is actually from a '40-'41 big truck, as is the grille...wonder if the frame is from a bigger truck or it's a 1/2 ton.
That is a custom thing, there were no factory extended cabs made. Not sure of any aftermarket body mfg making extended cabs back in the '40's. You make these extended cabs by using the pieces from another cab. A guy around here has a 4 door '46 Ford pickup, used 2 cabs, and 6 doors to make it all.
There you go, now we have it on good authority that they did make crew cabs back in the 30's and 40's. Now with 90% perspiration and 10% inspiration this would make it a good project. A person could always make it back in to a conventional cab. The hood does look a little funny sitting up there, but you could always add a few filler panels to match it to those fenders. Using a 55 gallon drum of sculpting paste anything is possible. This won't become a 'belly-button' truck which it seems everyone wants to make these days. Even Chip would require more than seven days to complete this project. Jessie could pull it off but it wouldn't look 'stock', but it would have a hell of a nice exhaust system. Loud too!!! Maybe someone with a PhotoShop program could smooth it out and show us what it could look like. Happy dreams.
There would be no need for anyt filler panels for the fenders, it appears the fenders on the back of the truck are the stock big truck type fenders, which will match up perfectly with the big truck hood it has sitting on it. A '40-'41 big truck with an extended cab would make a neat truck, certainly won't see any like it. But the amount of filler used is something that would have to be investigated further.
Looks like it probably won't sell, it's still got 24 hrs left, and only 1 bid. Perhaps the amount of filler is scaring off potential buyers.
