i just got my first diesel...i know where the filter is..but what do you have to do to get that plastic cap off to access it..i dont wanna break anything
Threads are normal, and that's all it takes. Just lift up and try not to get fuel everywhere. If you click on the Aricles/Specs link at the top of the page, you can then click on Diesel and there is a step by step article on changing the fuel filter
are the threads normal or left handed? and do you just lift it out and drop the new one in?
I'd recommend draining the fuel out of the filter housing using the water drain. Then when you push the new filter on, it won't splash all over you like mine did the first time I changed it. Besides, you'll want to make sure there's no water in it anyway.
is the water drain the one they talk about in the tech article and the one i cant find?? hehe
I haven't read the article, but it probably is. Facing the engine, it's a little lever on the lower left side of the fuel filter housing. Don't forget to close it before you start it!
Also slide a piece of 5/16 hose up on outlet tupe so it wont drain down on front end and put drain pan or plastic bottle so you can see what you drained out. Aswell as not getting it all over the ground. Good luck

well...i changed it today and it was easy..i couldnt find where you hook up the hose to drain it so it went all over my driveway..it runs a little better now i think!
Just so you know for next time. If you get underneath you truck and look on the left side of the motor just above the frame there is a little tube that terminates right there. I tried to hook a piece of 5/16 hose over it but it wasn't big enough to fit over the tube. I just make shifted a drain tube out of some electrical wire that was big enough, I had lying around.
