oil in the radiator overflow tank

I have a 01 with 125k on it. Noticed oil floating in the over flow tank tonight. Anyone have this problem yet. Any trouble shooting tips?

Could also be a faulty oil cooler. I'd go there first - cheapest place to start. Make sure you flush the radiator when ya fix it.

I agree on all points here. Most likely suspect, they have o-rings that separate the tubes inside.

When you repair it, run a cup full of Dawn dish washing detergent in the radiator with clean water. Let it come to temp, drain, flush, & repeat. This will clean the oil from the system. The oil will turn ALL rubber hoses to mush!

often oil in the coolant tank is a bad oil cooler but you could also have a leak in one or more of you injector cups which will cause the same thing

Thanks for the replays. I was thinking the same things. My problem started out with just a little bit barley noticeable in the tank. Went to the mountains and the next day had an amount floating on top of the tank to cover the top of the anti freeze. Went to the dealer today for an eval. They immediatley started throwing out the injector cups leaking by. Course they estm. about $4000 for the fix. does this amount seem hight?

If they have to pull the heads maybe $900 to $1200 in labor and $500 to $750 in parts using old injectors. With new or reman injectors it could be $4000. If it is running fine just oil in the coolent I would try the oil cooler first. It the most likely cause and the cheepest fix. Three hours labor tops and $300 in parts top.

At the cost of these repairs one could only hope. I will see what they say in the morning and with any luck that will be it.

Did you get the oil thoroughly flushed out? The petroleum with swell the coolant lines from the inside out. It softens the rubber and then they fail over time.

So how did they find the problem put air pressure to the oil cooler and look for bubbles? Also how did they fix it take radiator apart change out cooler in tank? Just curious.

You are thinking of the transmission cooler, the oil cooler is attached to the block.

As for the flushing, I filled it contless times with water and dish soap. Brought it up to operating temp. Circulated it for a few minutes, let cool and drained. Hope it was enough.
