6mpg in my truck....is this normal???
Ok, heres the deal. I wouldn't swear to it, but it seems the gas mileage in my 1997 F250 is getting incredibly worse. The truck is at about 87000 miles. I have the fuel injected 460 with an auto tranny. The truck has 33 inch tires (never lifted), a cold air system, and an aftermarket exhaust. I have the 8ft bed open with a rollbar. I measured out my gas mileage this past week and I'm getting 6 miles per gallon around town. I thought these trucks were rated from 8-12? Is this severly abnormal? Do you guys think going to narrower tires would make a significant change in fuel economy? Do fuel system cleaners help? Should I get a tune???? I get my oil changed regularly, and the truck is well maintained...

If it's got more than 10k since the last tuneup, you should go through and do a full-out job, with plugs, wires, cap, rotor, fuel and air filters, and the oxygen sensors. If it is mass-air, clean the sensor, and run fuel injection system cleaner through it. Use the good stuff that plugs into the fuel rail and runs the engine directly, or have a shop do it.
