129 H F253 A81 A 24
0600 172 4000 73
Here's what I know so far:
F25= F250 series
Y = 2V 352 V8
K = Kansas City Assembly Plant
888932 = when it was built? unit number?
129 = wheel base in inches ... is this a long bed?
H = color ... Sahara Beige? It's so faded, I thought at first it was Wimbleton White
F253 = F250, but what does the "3' mean?
A81 = body model? Could this be "481?"
A = transmission type ... I have a 3 speed on the floor with a granny gear
24 = rear axle ... I have no idea what this means
0600 = gross vehicle weight
172 = horsepower output at 4000 RPM .. typical for a 352 V8?
73 = DSO number ... I'm clueless about what this is
All this came up in an effort to find the original paint color. I also have a question about the rear bumper. It's a heavy duty step bumper with a trailer ball ... but the sides of the bumper wrap around the quarter panels and are attached there. I've never seen pictures of a '66 bumper like this, and I'm wondering if this is an aftermarket product.
Anyone ever see a bumper that extends to and bolts to the rear quarter panel??
Thanks for all your help.
First three lines you've got -
888932 is the unit number and was produced in July '66
WB - how long is your bed? 6'6" or 8'?
Stock Color is correct - was your truck ever repainted?
F252 (I don't show a 253) is for GVW of 7500
81 is conventional cab - A would be gray vinyl and woven plastic interior/4 would be beige vinyl
Trans A is 4 spd New Process (granny counts as '1')
Rear axle 4.10 ratio, Dana 60
73 is Direct Special Order to Salt Lake City (doesn't tell what the order was)
Can't help with the bumper - factory and aftermarket did some goofy things in the 50's/ 60's.

The bed is 8' long ... so I'd assume it IS a longbed.
I don't think the truck was ever repainted ... cab, engine compartment are the same color as the exterior and I KNOW that it hasn't been restored. I do know that, at one time, it was at Andrews AFB because it has a couple of military stickers on it ... being at Andrews would explain how much the paint has faded.
Instig8tr63: I think you're right about the bumper. The truck also has big 4-point mirrors on both sides that look like they belong to a camper package
You've both been really helpful ... thanks. I'll post pictures of the finished product when it's done.

I have a replacement "original style" bumper but everywhere I turn, no mounting brackets. Any help would be appreciated. Even a drawing or picture. I know a great welder/fab guy who can reproduce if needed.

The best truck show on the net.Salvage yards are the best place to look for them. I am hearing of them going for $150.00 and higher on Ebay.
Good luck in your hunt

As it happens, I am looking for a cheap way to ship a rear bumper now (see separate posting). Any ideas?
Saw your post and agree and have nothing better to add about ideas for shipping. I've always found freight lines the best way to go, but if you can have your guy build a box for you so UPS or FedEx can ship it, that would be ideal.
BTW, I just got through removing, de-rusting, priming and painting that wrap around step bumper ... and it is not only very functional and sturdy, but it looks drop dead gorgeous with a fresh coat of paint on it.
Good luck,
gehrig
