What controlls the fuel enrichment when cold on a 92 F150 with a 302,I have been having a problem with my truck when the motor is cold but runs fine when up to operating temp,I changed the coolant sensor and no improvement so I am thinking whatever controlls the cold fuel enrichment might be the problem. Jeff
What problem(s) are you having when the engine is cold? The injectors are profiled by the computer based on inputs from the coolant temperature sensor and intake air temperature if your engine has the air charge temperature sensor in the intake manifold. Are you getting any codes?
It has a little bog off idle when cold and the high idle surges a little, the check engine light has not come on so I dont think it has set any codes and the throttle response is not as good as when the motor is warmed up. I now think I read somewhere that when the motor is cold the computer sends the air from the smog pump to the heads to fool the oxygen sensor that its lean so it richens the fuel while being cold so could the divertor valve be bad or the solinoid the controlls the vacumn be bad. It does send air to the head, but not for that reason. It is to light off the first cat sooner so that the emission controls work sooner, and there is less time in the high polluting warm up time. The computer does not take information from the O2 sensor until the engine is above a certain temperature anyway. I would try pulling the codes even though the check engine light is not on. Codes can be set and not turn on the CEL.
Could also be a bad TPS sensor or a partially stuck open EGR valve. But I agree with the others, Check for codes first before throwing any more parts at it.
