The driver side window on my wifes '97 (we both have '97 Models) came unattached from the mechanism. At first I figured the transfer arm was broken until I took the door panel off and examined it. The metal clips that hold the window came unglued. What a weak method to couple the motor to the glass. I'm sure it would cost more to have holes in the bottom of the glass to secure the mounts, but a crimped "U" shaped clip isn't very substantial.
Anyways, I tried hot gluing the window back into the clips and this didn't work. Is there a recommended adhesive and procedure for this? I'd assume you simply get the "right" adhesive, push the glass all the way up manually and then slowly tap the button to make the motor bring the clamps up to the bottom of the glass and fully seat. Then leave the window up for 24hrs or something like that.
If you've ever experienced/fixed this, please let me know.
Thanks!
Jeff

Sweep (MS), what did you end up using? I've posted bascially the same question in a couple of spots with no response (yet). The post I linked to below details my problem and how I fixed it with silicone, but my friends don't think silicone will hold the window in the U shaped you described. I really don't want to be out with the window stuck down again. Its not the weather, it's the fact I can't lock the truck.
I never had this problem but maybe you can check with a local auto glass repair shop. I would assume they would know what to use since it has to be a part of the glass replacement.
You will have to take it to an auto glass shop. We have had numerous vehicles roll through our shop with that problem from all makes (not just Ford) and none of the manufacturers will sell you the glue or tell you what is used. I have tried EVERY kind of glue the local Napa store carries with no success. I just call the local glass man now and have him fix them on the lot.
