I was wondering If any body could tell me where the switch is located for the parking brake light. I was fooling around with mine the other day. It has never worked and I would like to change that. I took it out and looked at the wires. My test light showed it had a constant hot wire and the other I have to assume is a ground. I saw no switch to complet the connection. I reied to follow the wires but they go up the dash into a big cluster of wires that are all taped together. I am sure someone has had this problem before. I just figured I would give it a try to try to save me some head scratching.
jowilker is right. That warning light has a switch on the proportioning valve(spelling?) that comes on when the pressure in the brake line is unequal in the front or rear brakes.
David, I think you are looking at a warning light for brake replacement, tis not what you're thinking.

I really don't kknow. It is the light that is just above the parking brake. I thought that it was a light to remind you that the parking brake was set. I could be wrong but I thought I had seen someone say that is what it was.It sounde logical to me because I had set my brake several time and did not realize it untill I was goind down the road. It has never come on in the 14yrs I have owned the truck. I cleaned it up and tested the bulb . It was fine but I could find where the wires went under the dash. It has a constant power to the light I just had to ground the other wire to get it to come on. Am I wrong. I did not think this would be a pressure light. Please give more comments.
wow. I would have never guessed that it was a pressure warning light. Thanks for the help. I remember about 7-8 years ago my m/c went out when I was breaking on the freeway no less. I don't remember that light comming on but I sure remember the loos of pressure I thought I was going to plow me a field of cars. Well anyway thanks for the help.
The last time we discussed this, we came to the conclusion that some of the '71 and '72 trucks had this light activated by the e-brake as well as the differential valve. It might have been a dealer add-on at that time. It is also normal for the light to come when the key is in the "start" position.
Based on what I've seen, it's not really a pressure light as much as it is a difference in pressure light. You can find the switch for the light in the middle of the differential valve. It should be on the left frame rail just about under the driver's foot. Low pressure on one side or the other results in a plunger in the switch dropping and turning on the light.
I did some research on it because mine won't go out even though I tried the correction in the shop manual. I may have a bad switch, but they're hard to find.
