1988 Transfer case
Anyhow all was going well, cruising around and around and around the yard in 1st and 2nd gear 4L.Almost done, when I hear this loud pop, and the the truck starts making a thumping sound every second or so.
I brought the thing to a quick halt and said something like, "Wow, I wonder what that may have been!"
My daughter who was in the back yard, says, "Yuck, Daddy, the truck looks like it is going to the bathroom!"
I look underneath, and sure enough there is transmission fluid flowing out like there was no tomorrow. ("Gee, that doesn't look good.")
Anyhow after the short inspection, I found that the tail housing of the transfer case had cracked. I believe it is a BW 1350, but haven't really checked into it to far yet. My question(s):
What could have caused this?
Where is the best place to get a tail section?
Or should I take this time to upgrade the transfer case to a better model?
2.9L, automatic, manual locking hubs
Thanks for the help in advance.
How much will a transfer case run? New/rebuilt? Should I upgrade or is the BW 1350 a good model? How hard are they to rebuild yourself? Is it worth the time, effort? Where can I get a rebuild diagram, as I haven't been able to find one on line yet?
Ok, maybe just maybe I will get a response to one or more of these questions.....We will see.....
