towing with a ZF transmission
Hello- I have done quite a bit of searching on this forum but haven't found what I am interested in. I am looking at purchasing a newer (between 1999 and 2002) F-350 with the manual transmission, which I think is the "ZF" transmission. I may end up with a 5 or 6-speed. Like to hear your thoughts on 5 speed verses 6 speed. I would like to know if towing in overdrive is acceptable with the 5 speed or 6 speed ZF manual transmission, assuming the truck has a towing package and at least a 3.73 ratio differential. The truck will have the Powerstroke diesel engine. Also, are there any common problems with the ZF manual trans? How is the clutch with these trucks, do they have an easy to operate (minimal effort) hydraulic clutch. Does anyone know what the maximum torque ratings are on these transmissions? Your input is greatly appreciated.
