Hey there, got a problem, i need a new door lock mechenism for a Ranger the ones now are startin to mess up, but i cant find them anywere, i guess even the dealerships cant get one at least the ones ive been to now thats messed up aint it. well i dont wanna got o a junkyard cause its hard enough to get them out of my friends truck, i dont wanna have to rummig around in the cold trying to find a good one, those might not even have the key, hopefully a new one will have keys. well thanks alot any help would be great
You aren't too clear about what exactly you need. As Ken said, the cylinders are easily obtained, and the rest of the linkage usually just needs some lubricant to loosen it up, unless something has broken. The little plastic retaining clips are also readily available at most parts stores. If your problem is the locking cylinder, try putting some graphite lock cylinder lube in there. Don't use oil or WD 40.
well the passenger door started first, at first it would just be hard to unlock but then it started that i couldnt unlock at all sometimes, now all the time, they pass door just wont unlock with the key, i have to unlock it from the inside, now the drivers door is doin it, sometimes the key unlocks it sometimes it doesnt, so as you can see i really hate locking my doors cause i dont wanna get locked out. So the key i would think still works fine so i guess all i need is the cylinder, were could i order one online?? well thanks for all the replys
i bet it is the key. is it worn? my mom had the same troubles with her old van. sometimes the key would unlock it and other times not until it wouldnt work period. she took it to the dealer and they had a master key and it worked perfectly, she had a new key made and when compared with the old key, it was clear the old key was worn down. i would try getting a new key from the dealer (or have them check with a master key if they have one) before tearing the door apart for potentially no reason. if you need the cylinder, your local advance or autozone should carry them.
