Let me start by saying that I love my Ranger. I have very few problems and have over 138,000 miles on a 2.3 liter, 2 wheel drive Ranger.
During the spring I had the power steering pump replaced (about 9 months ago). Over the last few months I am hearing a whine coming from the front end that is getting worse daily. It seems to be getting worse as the temperatures are starting to drop here in Michigan. I replaced the tires two weeks ago but this had no effect on the whine.
The whine doesn't appear to cause excessive vibrations but does fluctuate as I drive over dips in the road. It almost feels as if the whine is only excessive when there is pressure on front end (like driving up an incline or accelerating) but relaxes when coming off the incline or slowing down.
As the truck speeds up the noise increases but doesn't seem to be gear related as I can shift into all gears with no problem (the truck is a manual transmission). Breaking doesn't seem to directly affect the noise but as the truck slows the noise decreases.
