I just bought a new 05 FX4 off road. – I’m looking for a few recommendations on a cap for the truck – My only real requirements is that the cap have a small rack on top – I need to be able to carry a canoe without the front of the canoe scraping the top of the truck cab.

BTW – Just downsized from the F150 4x4 extended cab – so far I am very impressed with the Ranger. – Plenty of power with the 4.0 V6 – Great in traffic – easy to park and is big enough for me, my Dawg and a few dozen duck decoys.

I would like a nice quality cap that won’t break the bank.
I have a Jeraco fiberglass cap on my 2002 Ranger Edge. It was painted to match the truck at the factory and they did a very nice job. It is also fitted with an optional adjustable ladder/boat rack.
I highly recommend their product. www.jeraco.com
On one of my other rangers I had a Raven Truck top, and it had a rack option for it, I have been looking at some for my newer ranger....prices have gone up a bit..all the fiber glass ones seem to all be within a $100 of each other. Had a brahma cap on another brand truck I had back in the late 80's it was a good top as well -
I've had a Leer (on my F150) and a Jeraco (on another F150). I thought Leer made a great cap until I had the Jeraco. My main reasons for prefering the Jeraco was they didn't put a rail on the bottom edge, so the cap looked more flush with the truck. Some people thought it was all connected, like a suburban style. If you are willing to pay the extra, I liked the side windows that open up (like a liftgate) so you can access stuff without crawling into the truck. My current Ranger is capless since I got the 4dr supercab. Both my F150s were reg cab and I needed the protected/secure space. Also, have the roof rack mounts done when you order it so they don't have to drill later. Then get a quality rack like a Thule. Ask if you have any other questions, I've done a lot with caps and racks.
