Offroad Lighting

I need you guys to help me out. I need some help in locating a pair of lights for offroading/auxiliary lighting. I put on some driving lights today, and it helps just a touch, but I need more. these are 1" tall by 3" wide, not the greatest lighting, you know? I'm thinking a 3-4" diameter light, or a 4x6/5x7. Price is the main thing. Also, mounting I'd like to be just a single bolt, I don't want to drill a lot of holes in my bumper to mount it. Thanks guys!

This light set that I got is pretty nifty. Has a remote transmitter that mounts under the hood so there are no switches to have to run around the cab and all that. A on/off remote comes with it..though I just mouned it in my cab. I think when I get hte oher lights, I'll just call the company and say my setup fried but the lights are still good, and get them to send me a new one of those to hook those lights through. =)

Saurian, perfect timing on this thread! I was just going to throw something up about needing some off road lights. I just bought and installed this: http://www.randyellisdesign.com/SUPERDUTYPRODUCTS/ today and now I need some lights for it. I was lookin' for some 6-8" lights to put on it. I was going to do 2 flood and 2 beams. I'm gonna check out the thread that Ronin put up (thanks Ronin).

EDIT: Here's another thread where I found some good info:

I think I'm gonna go with the Pro-Comp 5" Chrome housing lights. 23 dollars a peice on 4WP. 18 dollars on 4WP for the switch kit, and then another 14 to get the 130W replacement bulbs. 80 bucks, and I ought to light things up pretty good. Look nice on the old bumper, too .

I'll look elsewhere for them cheaper. 4WP gouges =P.

Funny thing, I posted in the one thread. My telephone pole floodlight idea was good I thought.

If I weren't in college, I'd definately spring for Lightforce's.

I'm already planning on hooking up a power inverter so that I can run a christmas tree in the back of my truck with lights. Need to go to Walmart and see how much a base is...then how much sandbags are...and find a tree..and lights..and inverter. Bah! Too much stuff...

Carefull......I decked out Superbeast with Chrismas lights last year (used an inverter, all wired up right) and ended up melting part of my factory wiring harness and frying my alternator. Maybe I shouldn't have used two strings of those big outside house lights

If I go with 4 130w lights am I going to need a bigger alternator than the factory one? I'm running a 6 channel amp too. Maybe a second battery would help???

I'm torn between the procomp 8" and the kc 8" lights (both 130w). What do you guys think? I don't want to drop a ton of cash on this, I'm already in trouble with my girl for gettin' the bar at xmas time. Doh!

There goes that idea.

Screw the Christmas tree anyways. Money I could be putting towards lights, or a chip..or intake work..ANYTHING. Got the exhaust done today, and the 4-wheeling AND speed fever are working me over pretty damn good. *cries* Why can't I have a couple thousand dollars to spend on my baby (not my girlfriend this time - don't tell her...).

Oh, I wouldn't give up on it. Its doable. I replaced the fried stock wiring with heavier gauge and put in a bigger alt. Plus, I don't have my auto tranny fan anymore and my rad fan is on a temp prob so it doesn't run all the time now. Being too dumb from learn from previous mistakes, I'm gonna try again this year. Its crazy how many people I get pointing, honking, and waving when I got that thing rolling down the interstate with Christmas lights wrapped around the cage in the bed

Well, I decided to go with the KC lights, the 800 series. I got 4 8" (2 fog, 2 beam) for $375. Alot more than I wanted to spend but I figured I'd just do it right the first time. Should be here this week. I'll throw some pics up when I get it done. The bar's already up so now comes the hard part, the wiring (I hate wiring, ugg).

proeliator,

Try some LED christmas lights (I think they have the big size... inch and a half). They would cut your load (amps) by about 80-90%...and they won't burn out from all the pounding you are sure to give them. Here is a link.

just get some brighter head lights and worry about putting lighting under and behind your truck where normally can't see! i have some nice bright lights under my truck and when i pull up tro a ricer in it and they have those neon colored lights flickering under there cars i turn on my bright-azz halogen lamps under my truck and freak'em out!

and the rear halogen lights work wonders for night tailgaters.... just make sure before you leave turn the light pointing up a lil so it's right in their eyes and they have no choice but to stop when you turn the lights on!

Well, I got the light bar up. Haven't had a chance to really test them out yet in the desert or the dunes, but a jaggoff that cut me off the other night sure didn't like 'em. Sorry for lack of quality in the pics, I took 'em with my cell phone.
