92 Explorer; fuel smell by lt. passenger door.

I don't know what I would do with out this group. My daughter has a 92 explorer, that all of a sudden has fuel vapor smell coming up round the left wheel well. I have checked all of the hoses and line I can see, taken the spare down to see the tank, sprayed the tank down to see if I got any sheen in the water that mite show a gas leak and I can;t see any eveidence.
Could one of the vent hoses on top of the tank be leaking or is something in vent system not working?

Thanks,
Maury

Well I just found a post back in early October about replacing the gas cap. I think I will try the least expensive idea and go from there. I will let y'all know if this works.
Thanks,

I know you said you checked the lines and hoses, but on my 92 I had a fuel smell too. I found a short section of rubber fuel line in the middle of a metal line. It was right near the fuel filter. It had "gathered" and bunched up causing a kink. I believe it's a return line from the vapor cannister back to the fuel tank. It was only about 8 inches long and after pulling the ends apart (sliding them back onto the metal line farther) the kink came out and the smell went away.

Not a likely fix for you, but might be worth a second look.

Thanks. I will definitely take a look. I really wasn;t looking for kinks when I crawled under. I have found it wise never to bypass ANY idea!

Thanks
