2002 explorer 4-wheel drive will not engage

2002 explorer 4-wheel drive will not engage
when I press the buttons for 4 wheel drive they do not light up and engage i read it might be a module that is located behind the glove box. I also checked all fuses and they were fine. could it be that module and is there an easy test to find out if that is what it is. Thanks
