I am considering buying a Sport Track and have a few questions.
Will a 4X4 ATV fit with the tailgate down?
Are lift kits availible?
Is a 5 spd manual transmission offered?
How do you guys like Your Sport Tracks?
One of the pictures in the 2004 sales brochure actually shows an ATV in the back of a Sport Trac with the bed extender cage catching the rear. Larger ones probably won't fit, but smaller to mid size ones should.
Lift kits are available, a lot of parts are common with the late '90's Explorer Sports. For a mild lift, a lot of people do the Torq Twist and Shackle lift, good for about 2". All you do is tighten the nut on the torq bars to raise the front, and a $60 set of shackles on the back.
5 speed manual is available on older Sport Tracs, but not on the new ones (I think '03 and later)
I like my Sport Trac, just wish the gas mileage was better, and wish a V8 was available. I think it might be in '06, but not now. I had a '93 Ranger for 11 years and loved it, but growing family required more seats, so I moved to the Sport Trac. I've had it 6 months now and the only thing I regret is the monthly bill (it was nice going 6 years without a car payment).
Also, I just found out that my new ST qualifies me for a special tax deduction because they are designed to run off of gasoline and ethanol!
Randy, arn't the Exporer and Ranger and Sport Trac all built on the same chassis?
I mean other than spring rates and wheel base?
I just would not buy an auto tranny with a small rig like this.
Sport Trac is kind of a mixture between a Ranger and an Explorer. My understanding is that the chassis is Ranger (wheelbase on ST and Ranger supercab are about the same), and the interior/body is from the last generation explorer sports that they made through '01.
If you don't want an auto, then keep looking or wait for the '06's to see if Ford brings it back. The 4.0L V6 is peppy enough, not sure exactly what you're looking for.
I'm looking for a miniature Super Duty that gets 20 mpg with a 4.0 and 5sp with 3.73 gears and will haul 4 adults and a Yamaha Grizzly.
I work with a Gal that has one and it sits too low for me I would have to lift it 2.5-3.0 inches to clear 31x10.5x15s.
I am talking about September 2005 buy.
