I would like to install a used or NOS factory tach if Ford had one available for the 73-79's. Maybe Ford had one available for the 80's that would fit in a 70's dash?
saw a few big trucks with tachs in the 70s style, but have never seen one in a pickup.
Right, the bigger trucks had them, but they won't fit into our light trucks. The 73-79 heavy trucks have 67-72 dashes, so the tachs will fit in a 67-72 pickup but not our 73-79s. And the tachs are all cable driven off the distributer. So you would need the entire cable and dist to make it work.
There were optional tachs on the 80-86 pickups, but the guage cluster is totally different - it would require a lot of modification to make it work.
I would like a factory appearing tach (don't like having mine strapped to the column). If you find something that works, let us know...
get a small tach, the 2.5 inch type, and cut a hole in the plastic above the headlight and wiper switch. it looks almost factory. i have seen several trucks with that. infact it looks so good imo im going to do it to mine soon.
I have a analog tach aready mounted above the light and wiper switches but I am soon going to be changing my dash to a factory AC dash and one of the cold air louvers is just above the light and wiper switch. Also, the Tach I have there I do not like the look of-- looks kind of stuck on-- I like the nice red back light my tach now has. I think it would be nice to have both a tach and speedo in the dash right where the speedo is now.
I like the pillar pod plan, but where to get on that looks some what nice for my 79 250?Looked around but none of them look semi nice/fit .Right now I have the rpm gague(2") on the column
how about mounting it under the dash, beneth the radio? thats where my tach is. its a 5 in. tach. and i think it looks good. plus it solves the problem of the a/c vent.
I know thats ugly, and you loose some guages and warning lights, but i was bored, so i drew that up, and if you find a tach with corresponding layout...you might be able to make this work, but who would do this
EDIT, darn photo wont show....heres a link, im guessing it wont work either tho....
