I think the most popular mod, late 70's anyway, was ditch the cat!
Crager wheels, redline tires, glasspacks, Holly carbs, home made rear lift blocks (some were just stacks of 2x4's put in there! ) I think I've seen tube bumpers from then.
All of this is from my future father-in-law who was a 70's gearhead (but a chebby guy). I'm just a 70's model myself

Just to name a few: Seat covers or sarape @ Western Auto, tint windows from tint supplied by Yellow Front Store, sliding rear glass, fog lights or KC lights (JC Whitney), bug shield by Bug Shield, replace the door lock ***** with Yellow Front *****, Jensen Speakers with box (JC Whitney), Midland hi power CB, Dual Exhaust with California Turbos @ local muffler shop, Black Jack Headers (Napa or ACE?), chrome mud flap (Western Auto), BF Goodrich Radial tires, running boards, the plastic cup holder mounted on door window opening @ Western Auto, Gun Rack @ JC Whitney, Winch @ JC Whitney, & custom chrome steering wheel with chrome horn kit.

Interior color matched "mood lighting" under the dash. A homemade plywood speaker box above the windshield covered with **** carpeting with 6x9's mounted along with the C.B. and equilizer to go with the "new" cassette deck. Foam pipe insulation on the shifters. The "Ford" decal across the top of the windshield. Window decal that reads "you toucha my truck I breaka you face" Old ax handle on display in the gun rack. No catalytic converters.
