Unhappy The dang light stays on...

1979 F-150 4x4

Where's the switch located for the Emergency Brake light in the dash.
The guy I bought the truck from said he had been working on the brakes and he don't know how he did it, but now the light stays on all the time. I've engaged and released the parking brake repeatedly trying to get the light off, to no avail.
I looked around the brake mechanism but I can't find the switch. Do any of y'all know where it's at?

That brake light is the Low Fluid warning light. Not the E-Brake

One side circuit (front or back) has failed.

You need to bleed the system to get it back to the center position.

For what it is worth, mine stays on if I leave my key turned too far to the right. If I tap it back to the left a hair it goes off.

it is supposed to turn on in the start position to show it is working - and after that only turns on if the pressure is different between the front and rear brakes.

The fellow I bought it from had replaced a brake line on the rear the day before I bought it, and he said he bled the brakes afterward, but I assume he didn't do a good job. I'll just bleed the brakes again and I bet that will fix it.

Just a thought - you may have to reset the switch by hand - I sort of remember having to do that once.

I've had success resetting the switch by mashing the brake pedal as hard as I could till the light went off.

The switch either need's to be reset or the brake's still have air trapped and need to be bleed. Usually when bleeding brake's after repair's the light come's on after that 1st push of the pedal and after bleeding will go off. Is the pedal spongy?

No, It's not spongey.

So, to reset it I can push on the pedal real hard until the light goes off like 76supercab2 said, or if that doesn't work, what's the other way to reset it manually?

I think you can unplug and replug the switch at the proportioning valve.

Unplugging & replugging it doesn't make the light go out.

The slider pin needs relocating inside the valve is what shuts it off after getting to the center.

Milton has it . the center pin on the proportioning valve shout be pulled out and held out while the brakes are bled . when released after air is purged this sets the brakes to the required 60/40 as per factory . There is a little clip tool designed for this job but a small pair of vicegrips works fine if only applied at
enough pressure to hold the shaft out and not score the shaft . have had to do this about 6 times in my Fords 26 year career .

No T Jerry

There is also a special pin that needs to be pulled out for bleeding the front brakes after the rear one are done.
