All I can up with is that it came out of a 1974 Galaxie. I didn't think they made Galaxies in 74, possible LTD.

Thanks folks. I visited that website and was a little confused but that is about what I came up with. I can't determine what the AA-10 means nor do I know what the 7E13 means.

the casting nembers are about worthless. They don't always tell you the year. About all you know is that it is supposedly a 1974 ford engine. Could be in a 1975 model. Once Ford makes a part they continue to use the mold until something is changed or they feel like changing the casting.

Makes me wonder. I pulled it from a 1977 Lincoln Versailles and was told it was the orignal engine.

very well could be woodsman. Like i said Ford would have run the casting until something changed or they felt like it. i would consider it a 1977 motor.

Fordeverpower, What is interesting is that the engine has a Duraspark distributor which I believe was not introduced until 1976.

Thanks in advance.

7=Year
E=May
13=day

"7E13", indicate the date code. Even though the casting number reads "D4", it doesn't mean that the engine was made in 1974. You would need to look at this date code to see when it was made, which in this case is 1977.

1977 Lincoln Versailles used a special crankshaft (D74Y-6303-A), and bare block (D74Y-6010-A). It was used one year only and only on the Versailles.

From the D4AE casting, two 302 bare blocks were used 1974/78: D4AZ-6010-A & D74Y-6010-A. In 1979, D4AZ-6010-A was replaced by D9AZ-6010-A.
All a Versailles was...was a rebadged Granada with a toilet seat on the decklid.

The same 302 crank (marked: #2MA) except for 1977 Versailles was used 1973/78. If your crank is marked #2MA, it's not a Versailles engine.

He's got a 351W motor here. Not a 302 and the part numbers don't help here anyway.

Well, I first posted my inquiry in June of 2004 and was never confident of the reply at that time. Your additional information is appreciated and yes, I do have a 351W. I consider it to be a 1977. Thanks all and happy holidays.
