I currently drive an 02 F250 with reg. cab, 5.4 and a 6 spd. I need more cargo room and I'm considering purchasing a 350 and making my own bed (PT lumber) which would be cab width, cab height and 9 feet long. I don't want a dually nor do I want anything bigger than a 5.4, 6 spd.
Could anyone tell me what to do about the tail lights? Hopefully they're included. Is there some sort of limit on bed size when making your own? Will it come with the 4" rear blocks the same as the regular truck with the factory bed? Thanks in advance for any answers.
I'm a long-time reader of this board and this is my first post. Lots of good info here!
What you want is an F350 single rear wheel with the pickup bed delete option. The cab and chassis is only available in a dual rear wheel.
They do not come with tailights.
Is it the same exact truck except with no bed? I'm assuming it would be easy to go nine feet instead of eight? Does anyone here either have a "box deleted" truck, know someone who does or possibly post pics of one?
An F350 w/ bed delete will have a CA of 56" (cab to axle) assuming it was a long bed. A standard cab and chassie has a CA of 60". You can put 9' beds on them so I see no problem with your idea. You should add to the rear of the frame to support the wood body
Steve
I think it's been summed up. Get a SRW F350 which will have the blocks, purchase a stake bed or equal, or fabricate your own bed. You can use the existing wiring harness to run your tail and marker lights that you purchase. You can make your own filler neck bracket. Fab a headache rack, toolboxes, etc.
Is there something we’re missing?
BTW – Contact your local dealer about the box delete option.

What I was wondering is if it's the same exact truck as the regular f350 only without the box? I wonder if there's a discount?
What I need is a basic F350 4x4, not a dually. I need more cargo room for hauling stoves, washers, dryers, etc. I need it cab-high and the lack of wheel wells will give me a LOT more room and ease of sliding things in and out. I want a 5.4, 6 spd with AC.
I'd like to see a picture of such a truck, but most folks here have lifted xtra-cabs and such. Speaking of which, what is the advantage to a lifted truck? Isn't the clearance going to be pretty much the same? Wouldn't altering a truck that way void the factory warranty? Makes no sense to me!
With a quality lift you can get better articulation, ability for a larger tire, plus it just looks good. Larger tires will give you some more clearance(i.e. going from a 31" tire to a 35" will give approx. +2" clearance). Most lots will install a mild lift for you, $$, so it shouldn't affect your warrantee unless you go huge.
Most people do it for looks.

It is the same thing without a bed. Check with your dealer about a discount.

And the lift is for looks and performance, on and offroad. The larger diameter tires gives the differential clearance and the suspension/body lifts give the tires clearance.
As far as lifting trucks to add larger tires...doesn't that simply use more fuel? What good does that extra two inches really gain you in terms of off-roading? From reading some of the other posts, few of you actually off-road yet have a lift? Aren't they also expensive? I mean, why not spend the $ thrown away on a lift on a boat or something that makes sense? Aren't they also a pain to get in and out of? I have a stock F250 4x4 and I wouldn't want it any higher than it is! I also constantly read about "lift problems" on here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't you bring those problems on yourselves with the foolish lift in the first place? They also must be hard to get rid of at resale/trade time? I know I wouldn't look twice at a lifted truck.
I guess "to each his own", but I don't think they look any better either. I know when I see a lifted truck I just see money tossed away.
I guess I just want the truck to be a "truck" and nothing more.
The money may seem as a waste to you but not us. It's all relative and what you enjoy and what make's you happy. It would not be worth trying to explain to you what we get from a lift, I do of road
heavy with mine. You do not need or use it. Don't like it so it would be nothing but a waste to you. That fact will not change no matter how hard someone explains it to you. A truck with a big box on the back just to move house appliances and stuff to me is a big waste. I don't need it. I don't
like the look of it. So to me it's just a waste of a good truck. With that said I understand that you do need and use it so to you it make's all the since in the world. That's the good thing about these trucks though we can all set them up and use them the way we want. That is why we all drive them.
Hope this helps some..

Hey, don't get me wrong here. I'm happy that you guys enjoy your trucks the way you have them. I personally need a truck to earn a living, you guys want them for looks/recreation, etc. That's why I said "to each his own".
I know my truck isn't going to be "cool" I just want it to do what I bought it for, haul stuff.
I guess my type of situations/questions are a lot different than most on this board. I probably won't post much, but I do read the board quite often and am amazed at the information you all share with each other.
Please don't get offended by this remark,but...I would spend an extra 600 or so bucks and go for the V-10.You will see basically the same fuel mileage unloaded and possibly a bit better loaded and or towing.
hey i have an idea! buy a trailer ! and yes all ford trucks with bed delete come with lights.
our shop truck f350 drw we made a 10' bed, but we sent it out and had the frame streched 3'

Take care.
Not taking you wrong and you should post. I am sure you have a wealth of information to sare. We all use it to help us do things we want to do. Just becasue you don't have a lift does not mean you don't have info that's worth wile.
