i think my throw out bearing is bad but im not sure.
when i put in the clutch the chatter goes away.
when i drive in first second third and fith gear its noisy as heck.
but i 4 th gear is quite.
is this throw out bearing or my manual transmission.
could i be getting low in gear oil?

More than likely, your transmission is toast..

I experienced the same thing with an 85, all gears save for 4th were nothing but clatter..

On a good note, she still got me home which was 65 miles away..

Get ahold of a reputable tranny shop, they can confirm for sure.. Then go to a junkyard and get a replacement..

Good Luck..

It varies state to state for labor, best thing to do is check around..

I got a good used 5spd for $500.00, but it only had 38,000 mi on it, so that may have made it a little on the expensive side..

A rebuild is usally pretty expensive + you have to make sure a reputable shop is available that will warranty their work..

Ebay may also have some used trannies you can check into..

Again, I am not POSITIVE that your tranny is toast, I am just sharing my experience(all my synchro gears were shot and if I remember right, the tranny mechanic told me that 4th was okay which is why I didn't hear clatter in that gear)..

A Tranny Pro can verify for sure though.

Good Luck..
