axle pivot brackets on 2.5" lift

Hey, i have a 83 f250, right now its stock with 33s under it. I am looking at a 2.5 in. tuff country lift. I know since I got the independent front I'm going to need some axle pivot brackets. I was reading about these in some other posts and some guys said all of the pressure on these caused their crossmember to break. Has anybody here had trouble with that? Do you think I will be fine since I am only getting 2.5 in. lift? I wont be driving this everyday real hard through the mud, but it will be driven fairly hard offroad. Thanks

Rough Country also has 2.5" pivot brackets. Personally, I think the only right way to lift a ttb is with cut and turned beams but they ain't cheap.

ya know i had a ttb in my truck lifted 6 inches for about 40K miles, with alot of rough beating on it. I broke the rear axle in half jumping my truck, hit a rock with the front axle at 30 mph....and the one thing that never gave or bent was the cross member and pivot brackets.....i wouldn't worry about it.

Mine wasn't an F250, but the crossmember on my F150 was severly cracked by a 4" tuff country lift. It was on the truck when I bought it, and I can only assume the crack was there already as well. I had to spend some serious $$$ replacing the brackets and getting a lot of welding done. Besides fixing the cracks, I had the shop weld in a brace between the axle drop brackets to strenghten things up.

I have a Tuff Country 2.5" on my truck. The brackets are built well, but the eccentric cam bolts are next to the worst invention on the face of the planet! Talk about a 3 week long headache fixing the problem.

the crossmember on my F150 was severly cracked by a 4" tuff country lift.
If the cracks came from the bolt holes, I would suspect under torqued bolts as the cause, not the bracket.

It wasn't from the bolt holes. The brackets are fairly small and don't spread out the extra torque caused by the added leverage of the longer brackets. I don't have any idea how the truck was treated before I bought it. It could have been slammed around really hard for all I know. All I know is I took my truck to 3 different 4X4 shops and a frame shop that does a lot of work for yet another 4X4 shop. They all said the same thing, those brackets aren't big enough.

I have a 6" lift with superlift springs and a shyjacker 1 piece bracket for the front. It's only been on for a month but I really can't see it ever breaking or having problems with the crossmember breaking. This bracket is huge and covers the whole crossmember. Unless I slam into a hole at 35+mph i don't think I'll hurt this bracket or crossmember.

First Time,

There is a big difference in brackets from SkyJacker and Dick Cepek in comparison to Tuff Country and Rough Country.

Its also possible to use backing plates and/or some welding.

That is my point. I waited almost 2 years to save up the money to do the lift and modifications the way I wanted them done on the first time. I think I am much more happy than if I would of put somthing on I was unsure about. I think that there is a reason tuff country and rough country cost less than others. Just my opinion though.

I have the 2.5" tuff country lift and 33's under my '88 F-250, and after years of unrelentless pounding its still holding up well. Heck one time I caught a dead honest 5 ft of air (by accident) and only needed re-alingment. Me and my buds were tearing arround in his pasture when I topped a hill doing about 35mph, and went for an all out moon shot, lol. They all thought it was hilarious, and after inspecting the truck for damage, I had a good chukle too. IMHO the tuff-country lifts, especially the shorter ones, are durable enough for almost any application. I have had mine on for the last 6 years and 70,000 miles with no trouble what so ever. Those miles included many on the farm, and equally as many off-roading. I think it is a good lift for the money.

Hey BigBlock, I noticed you said that you have the 2.5" lift with 33s. Is there enough room for 35s on your truck? My truck is stock with 33s right now, I was planning that the lift would give me plenty of room for 35s. What do you think? thanks

I could run 35x12.50-16's, but they would scrub a little under full flex. I really wanted to run 34-10.50-16 or 34-11.50-16's, but they are so hard to find that I'm just going to put another set of 33's on it. But to answer your question, yes they would fit, but they might scrub just a little under full flex.
