I just noticed my diesel fuel tank is starting to leak up at the top. I used a mirror to see where it is coming from and it looks like where the strap goes around and binds it to the top.Looks like they have some type material there to keep from shafing. I have a friend tell me he has fixed many tanks with seal all. Take the tank down and clean it well. then sored seal all over the area-couple coats as they dry. put it back and they never leak there again. has anyone else done this? I should get a new tank but i'm one of the lucky ones in this wonderfull country that has lost his job and can't afford a new tank right now.
I knew i should of got a yota.
get some jb weld from the parts store ,mix it and apply it to the hole . they also make a gas tank putty that does the same thing , saves all that removal and waving it arround procedure, specially if its not a big hole, good luck, bob
The JB weld will work great. Just make sure the gas in the tank is below the hole or remove it. If still on the truck, remove the gas cap to remove pressure. Clean around the hole with sand paper. Take a small amount of jb weld and let it almost set up, so it starts to get hard. and push it into the hole. Let it set up over night. Then reapply it , the size of a dime for a pin hole. Let it set up for the full time, listed on the tube. It should hold for years. I have a1961 ford galaxie that has a patch from way back in 1984, and still no leak. and this is on the bottom of the tank.
Good luck
Martin.
I have used Seal-All and JB Weld myself several times over. I didn't think you could even buy Seal-All anymore, due to it's VOC content- it's some pretty nasty stuff. If you go with JB, use the old fashioned stuff, not the "JB Quick". The quick one sets up too fast, and doesn't bond as well.
