confederate flag- why display it

confederate flag- why display it
i know this may wip up a real hornets nest, but its an honest question. i see them on cars and trucks, t shirts and even on sime threads here. what is the message that those displaying it are trying to get across?

I have never displayed one so I cant answer your question. I think Sinjin was right. They are often perceived as something other than what the flag means to those displaying it. Black folk often acossiate it with the KKK, My wife, from Philly, acossiates it with white country folk with the hill billy flare. Isuppose some display it to be recognized as this new hip redneck that seems to be so fashionable.

'Cause the South Shall Rise Agin.
It's a part of history and maybe not a proud part for many and some who display it have no clue what it really stood for and the hurt and killing that surrounded it's inception and it's use as a symbol of the South

The South stood for slavery(among other things granted). The Battle Flag stood for the South. I fail to see how the logical inference is misguided. It may not be the intended message from some today but what the hell do you expect? How can one celebrate the South's traditions without also implying support for the tradition of bondage and forced labor. I feel you can't and I also think those who fly the flag are insensitive and mean to be.
BTW how economically viable would the Confederacy have been without slavery?

the south did not just stand for slavery. yes they had slaves, but so did farmers in the north.
the confederate flag stands for the south, just as the american flag stands for the U.S.

The confederate flag stood for nothing more then the South's rights to own slaves PERIOD without that issue there would have never been a confedracy and no North / South Split. By the way the stars and stripes or the AMERICAN flag did not just stand for the Northern States in stood for all States until the South split and chose war over ending slavery.

Only a very, very tiny percentage of the population even owned slaves. I just find it irritating how race panderers have distorted the true history of the south and the civil war. Our state flag was changed by our pos former gov because of this. Now I really dont care about the flag at all, but it being changed to appease the race panderers caused alot more racial tensions than the flag ever did.

It's hypocracy. Throughout our history, more americans have been enslaved, oppressed, killed and otherwise denied of their human rights under the government represented by the stars and stripes. But nobody seems to object to our national flag. Instead we value it as a symbol of freedom and patriotism.
