Kick Panel Trim

I am finally sticking a fork in this interior job and finishing the details. Everything seems to have a complication. I suppose that's why it's been put off for so long. Here's the first of several issues.

Installing the kick panels. They are quite a bit thicker now due to padding and fabric. The little metal edge trim that goes by the door opening against the door opening is not going to work out. I tried opening up the channel but it's just too big a stretch. Any ideas for an alternative? It wouldn't look bad without anything, but the edge is going to get soiled, if not worn from shoes rubbing it. I probably need something "U" shaped to go over about 3/8 thickness. Something from a local hardware store would be nice, or this is going to get put off again.

I just about got my cab rear wall panel covered and installed. Looking pretty sharp but of course a few completion issues there too. I'll share PICs of it very soon.

I headed to Lowes tonight and looked for both of your solutions. Found the aluminum U channel first. It was squared off and wouldn't look too good. Then I wandered over to the ceramic tile section. Found a hard vinyl edging in black and also picked up an aluminum rounded piece on close out. I am also using the stuff where the carpet ends at the door. It looks like it was made for my truck and I'm sure it's durable because it would take a beating in it's intended application as a ceramic floor transition trim.

BTW, the S/S sill trim pieces sold by the F100 vendors are about as thick as a beer can, and too big and shiney for my tastes. I already ordered and returned some of it long ago.
