4th gear grind
Under hard accereration my 3 - 4 shift scratches like a mad cat! My truck only has 10, 500 miles on it and it's an '03. I am going to take it to the dealer and get them to re-fill the tranny fluid. Does anyone have any suggestions? BTW it's a 4.2 obviously.

Your master cylinder is what controls the brakes on your truck. Read this:

As for a "synchro"....that is slang for Synchronizer. Here is a good explaination of a synchro and what it does:

I had the same problem with my '99 F150 4X4 Sport ext cab flair side with a 4.6 w/5 spd. I also had the same problem with my '94 Ranger 4X4 Splash ext cab with a 4.0 w/5 spd. I bought them both new. Dealers replaced the syncros in both trannies but the problems didn't go away, they said I couldn't drive. I took the last dealer for a ride in my Mitsu and he changed his mind about my ability to drive and shift. It seems the slave cylinder isn't as fast as your reflexes so the clutch never disengages fully, that coupled to the Mazda transmission and you have grinding when you shift fast. I don't think they want you to hot rod these things. If I could of ordered a Lightning with four wheel drive and an extended cab I would have.
