sloppy steering
I am trying to figure out what folks do to make the steering stiffer. I have about a 1/4 play and have replaced the tie rods. What else can I do?

I had sloppy steering on mine too! It has around 6000 miles on it now and the steering got progressively sloppier. Took it back to the dealer
and told them. They adjusted the steering gear and it is fine now. How old is your truck? Is the front end tight? ie:ball joints, linkages, etc. I don't know how old your truck is, but if it is new (under waranty) I would have the dealer check it out. The steering box adjustment worked for me! As a matter of fact, for the first week, I found myself oversteering on the highway because I was used to the play in the wheel, but now it is great!

The truck is a 97 and all the joints seem to be OK but the tie rod moves/twist when turning. Do you think a steering stablizer would help?

They ususlly turn about 1/4 inch, which is normal, most likley you box is warn abit and can be adjusted.
