My dad got a new 2500 Duramax Custom, and I took note of a few things GM is doing good. Blind spot, lane keep, cross traffic alert is all on his custom, so is power fold mirrors. Ford locks you out of all that until you get my trim (XLT Premium Package) which is significantly more expensive than the Custom Chevy trim. Custom is really most comparable with XL STX, and you can’t get most of that on STX. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t believe there is any way to option BLIS or Power-Fold mirrors on an STX.
Besides that yes the Chevy is a more basic truck, my Ford has a full digital led gauge cluster and much larger screen with heated seats and soft touch stitched upper doors etc, but the Chevy has a lot on the custom that would be nice for STX guys to be able to option. Side note: the Chevys doors feel extremely cheap and light, the sounds they make when they close is very tinny and does not inspire confidence like the Ford. My Ford doors feel about double as heavy as the Silverado HD and close much more ‘solid’. That was big stand out. Those doors feel so light it seems a gust of wind would rip them clean off the cab.

My 25 stx has blis and 360 cameras. If I had a chance to do it again I wouldnt get blis considering my passenger tail light is taking on water.

I'm glad Ford doesn't have as many bells and whistles in the lower trims. Most people don't want that crap in a truck. Let Chevy win that category...I'm perfectly fine with it.

Those Chevy HD doors are actually heavier since they're steel and not aluminum.
even with the lighter alumi doors i was suprised how tiny the ford hinges are. the doors are long with alot of leverage. cant imagine those hinges do well lonv term

They've been around for 10 years now, don't recall too many or any complaints about doors falling off.......now door rattles is a different story.
The only model I can think with door problems was the 66-77 Bronco line, the mounting points would rust away.
Do this review again in 5 years. GM hasnt upgraded their build quality since the 80's.
Drove a nice, well maintained, Escalade this week. It was loose and rattly. Very cheaply made.
And I dont want the frivolous touch screens and whatever. Bliss, power extend mirrors, lane assist......to hell with all that weak boomer junk. If you want a crappy Korean car with an undimmable giant useless touch screen, by a Kia.

All hinged panels are aluminum on Chevy, and much thinner and lighter than Ford doors. Only the bed and cab is steel, after 2019 everything on a hinge is aluminum for GM on 1500 and Hd trucks as well as Tahoe and Yukon.
My guess is they are paper thin to try and make up for the heavy steel cab and bed, where Ford can run a thicker door since the whole cab and bed is aluminum as well.

That's not true. On the 1500's, all moving panels are aluminum, but on the GM HD's the body is still all steel. Magnet doesn't lie. Ram HD's come with an aluminum hood now, but that's it.

Yeah, in 2026 MY they removed the BLIS and driver assist from the STX package and that was the only reason I finally ordered my RCLB, I didn't like that fact that in order to get the 7.3 you had to get the driver assists that were baked into the STX up to 2025 MY but PSD didn't have that restriction on XL.

Then the steel must be paper thin, the deflection by touch is crazy and it’s a much lighter feeling door than the Ford unless the Fords just use crappy hinges. I doubt that’s the case since this is straight from Chevrolet:
“The 2025 Silverado 2500 door skin is made of aluminum, a common material used for its lightweight and strong properties in truck bodies. Aluminum is used for components like the hood, doors, and tailgate to help reduce the vehicle's overall weight.”

Let's just say this... I've never seen a bed with holes in it until Ford came out with an aluminum body. Aluminum likes to crack and tear but it does have corrosion and weight benefits.

Interesting, I won't pretend to know much about GM bodys since forever. Kind surprised actually.
Really surprised about not hearing the aluminum factory to produce the majority of the aluminum used in the automotive industry effecting GM more
By the way, that plant should be online in a couple of weeks.
GM hasn’t used a heavy guage steel since the GMT400. When they changed to GMT800 platform, they significantly reduced the steel thickness to save weight. I could dent the box sides with my thumb. The bodies became an issue, the boxes escpecially. The 800 box rails were built / constructed in manner that it was difficult to bolt through. They had a tendency to crack in the front corners when running full racks. The GMT900 was the end of the road for me with GM. Eventually switching over to Ford first gen SD’s. The GM drivetrains were good. We had many GM trucks back then.
I had a long conversation with a GM exec, VP of marketing iirc, at a large showing in Michigan in 2003/2004. I told him the issues we were seeing with the bodies, and he told me flat out - “We don’t build trucks for working anymore. We sell more trucks in California alone, than all of Canada. They’re build to haul surf boards.”
Id like to see some of the aluminum SD’s after running heavy / awkward racks on a stock body.
