I had a factory rear sway bar installed on my 2017 PS SD & I’m wondering if I should install another on my 2025. In 2017 I was concerned about our trip to Colorado & Utah & the crosswinds on I-70 on the way out & back. I was pulling a 38 foot 5th wheel. Our trip was great with no issues on the way out in early March & back at the end of the month.
This time around we will be pulling a newer 38 ft 5th wheel which is a little heavier & wider & we are heading out to North Dakota, Wyoming & Montana in the month of September. Going via I-80. Both trucks are SRW. The 2025 is a crew cab King Ranch which has some sort of electronic sway control. I would like some opinions on whether or not I should go with a sway bar again. Thanks
I would try it without one. Especially since you had your 2017 with one to compare it to. I've never ran a rear sway bar, but I also only tow bumper pulls. I don't even have a front sway bar.
I personally believe that sway bars increase the "stability" of of our trucks because they have a higher center of gravity .... whether you're towing or not.
I added the OEM rear sway bar to my 2017 F250 KR after I got it since it did not come with one. My 2024 did not come withone either and I'm having my BIL price it out again for me. I'll likely add it to this truck too. I did just tow without it and the truck felt terrific! I'm not sure if the HCTP made a difference or not.
I only tow my Jeep on a 16' steel deck car hauler, so not a lot of weight. I just prefer to have the added stability insurance the sway bar provides.
Doesn't hurt to add it, so it is cheap insurance as a preventative measure.
Have a '24 F450 Limited, and it came with a HD Rear Stabilizer bar. But I still felt it was a little too sway prone.
Installed a Hellwig Stabilizer Bar, larger 1 5/16 diameter and type of steel.
Huge improvement.
I have the Carli Torsional Sway bar on Ft, but Hellwig makes Ft & Rr for all the Super Duties.
Prices are pretty reasonable for what you're getting.

I also installed the factory rear sway bar on a 2019 F-250, and am really pleased with the added stability while towing!
Of course the trade off was the rough ride it now has empty, but I would never go back.
Ford is trying to accommodate everybody with a smooth riding truck, but it is much better now for me!
With a large trailer, you will be glad you installed one when you go across I-80 in Wyoming where you will most likely encounter heavy cross winds. The winds between Laramie and Rock Springs can be rather rough. While they will usually allow commercial trucks to travel when the winds gusts are 40-60mph, they will prohibit those vehicles when the wind gusts exceed 60mph. I-80 has recorded wind gusts as high as 128mph so yes, it gets very windy in this part of the country. You may get lucky this trip and have very calm conditions but in all the trips I have made, it's rather rare to find calm conditions.
