I'm trying to find a bearing and retainer for my 72 F100 rear axle. The seal leaked, and gear oil got into the bearing area. It appears that it washed out some of the grease from the bearing, but maybe it's just old congealed oil.
The axle code on the vin plate is H3, 9" HD, 3600 lb. I would be surprised if it's not the original axle.
About 2 years ago I pulled the axle, the bearing has Bower R 1580 EB stamped on it. I'm having a very tough time finding a replacement bearing based on this number. Every site I find says not available.
I found a post on this site about there being 2 different inner diameters for the HD axle bearings, 1 5/8 and 1 17/32. I plan to pull the axle again and measure, but mine should be the 1 5/8 ID.
I'm trying pretty hard to get my truck up and running. I haven't driven it since I pulled the axle, and I'm itching to drive it again.
I've spent many hours researching this, if someone can help with good cross reference part numbers and sources, I would greatly appreciate it!
