What size hole do I need to drill for the twin I beam emblem on the fenders

My truck came with new fenders but no emblems. I have all the parts to put them on but I don’t know what size hole I need to drill.

does anyone know what size drill bit I need to make the proper size hole for the push nuts.

thanks.

Someone else may have a better approach, but I personally would use a set of calibers and measure the diameter of the stud, and then go a tad larger. I would also use painters tape and mark my location, then use a sharp punch to make an indent to prevent my drill bit from wondering (nothing is worse than watching your bit wander and scratch up your paint or loose you exact location). Another approach would be to use a very small drill bit and make a pilot hole, the pointier smaller bits are less likely to wonder.

Not sure the best approach for sealing the raw metal from drilling through. One thought would be to use a small dab of silicone, as that will also help hold things in place (like a glue) but not prevent you from being able to remove the emblem if you ever needed or wanted to. The only thought I have about the silicone, is that I know at some point it can loose its bond under extreme heat, and I don't now how hot the fenders would get on a sunny day. Years ago, when I worked for Starbucks (I needed the insurance after I got married and that was the best way) we had a sink that every month or so would start leaking. The plumber would come out and put in a new or renew the drain, but never use plumbers putty, instead he was using silicone. This was the sink that the drip coffee was dumped when it was an hour or so old, and a new batch was brewed. The coffee was still ungodly hot, and the extreme temperature compromised the seal and bond the silicone was giving, and low and behold the sink began to leak again. Hummm, maybe in hindsight he knew that and could rely on a making a few hundred bucks every few months, or maybe he was just an idiot. I am not saying you can't seal a sink drain with silicone, but in this case, old school would have worked better.

Good luck with your project and please keep us posted and throw up some photo's as they are always welcome.
