I have been watching the these threads for a while but I still have not decided the best option to go with for my situation, so here I am hopefully you guys will have some suggestions to help me figure out which way to go . I have a 62 f100 it originally came with the 223 and the T98 4 speed floor shift . The transmission is in good shape so I would like to keep it ,the engine is gone , it’s a long story because of a bad dishonest mechanic . So at this point I need to decide which engine to go with, I am open to any and all suggestions but would like to keep it as simple as possible because I just want it running . I will probably do more in the future but it has been sitting for months with no engine because he won’t give the original back and I am tired of it not running . Which engine options should I consider and what would work the best for this situation ? Thanks
I would stick with a 6 cylinder. A 240 or 300. Do you retain the bell housing, that may guide your decision. I had hopes of swapping my 240 out for my 390 into my '66 F250, but I decided that I don't need the extra power and weight for a utility truck. Keep it simple unless you want to make this a play truck. Where are you located? Perhaps someone has something laying around.
If you don't want to have to add motor mounts stay with a 6. A 223 or 262 would work. Even if you went with a 292 V8 of that era you would have to weld a front motor mount to the front cross member to accept the 292
Thanks guys ! This information helps a lot . It does have the bell housing and I am in the DFW area of Texas so I would be surprised if I couldn’t find the parts I needed. Now I know what the best options are so I just need to get the engine.
