New to the forum, glad to be here. I have a 1999 XLT two-seater that is my daily driver around town, on the farm, etc. It's been very reliable in 15 or so years that I've had it. I have a new problem that I've never experienced before. When I turn the key, I just get the ticking at the firewall and no starter engagement. The battery is fully charged. My wife noticed that when I turn the key, there is abit of arcing / sparks at the battery positive terminal. No problem with voltage to the vehicle - all the DC powered things work just fine. Just no starter engagement.
Issue resolved! In case anyone ever comes back to this, I went to go put my battery on a charger just to be sure...and discovered that the cable clamp had loosened and I could wiggle the cable end inside the clamp (hence the arcing that my wife saw). I tightened that clamp up, and issue resolved.
