i tryed to start my truck but the battery was dead. so i charge it. stick it back in turn key, truck goes click click click... figured the starter celinoid went bad so i just jumped it stright to the starter... still nothing. some times it gets juuuuuust enough power to turn the engine over just a tad... help
If it wasn't charged completely by an actual battery charger first which would tell if it was actually charging or not..try doing a Battery Draw test to see the actual condition of the battery.
i took jumper cable from a running truck straight to the starter and it turned very very slowly. and the gear didnt engage. so i think the starter could be bad. but it did start the day before. just fine so....
i just bought a whole new starter system... meh.. cost 60$ if that doesnt work ill come back here... in the mean time any other suggestions are helpful
You got electrical trouble...
Put on a blindfold get a white stick with a red tip and tap around in the engine compartment. Using what senses you got decide what part/s to change out.
Don't make no difference blindfolded or not you can 't see the trouble. :)
Only a meter can "see" the trouble.
Twice now i've seen people take off the battery clamp and clean it and put it back on.
Didn't fix anything. :)
The problem was where the wire is clamped-to-the "replacement battery clamp". You know those cheap clamp replacement things.
My cheap analog meter found it right off.
Also twice now people needed a jump and had their battery cables out ready to go. :)
No good. Didn't work.
Switched to my battery cables and fired right up.
Doing electrical trouble shooting without a meter... you might as well close your eyes and dream up stuff to change out. Oh sorry... you're already doing it that way. ;)
so the battery keeps draining... and dont know why! i charged it for a whole day and it ran for about 4 days, then died over night... im not leaving anything on i think. could it possibly be that i dont turn the ignition all the way off? because its old and the ignition seems to be turning with the key sometimes when i shut off the truck. any sugestions?
Use an amp meter and see if the electrical system is pulling any power with the key out. ( disconnect the alarm if you have one before testing) If you see a drain on the battery, start pulling one fuse at a time to find out what circuit the current drain is on. If no drain is found then you have a charging system problem or bad connection between your charging system and battery. You might just have a bad voltage regulator or alternator.
