I see several vendors list a new gas tank for a 1955 F-250. Which ones are the best and which ones should I steer clear of? Truck is stock aside from later rear end. Replacement tank needs to accept the factory sending unit.
I'm a little picky after getting burned with a replacement tank for my '40 Ford that was listed as a direct stock replacement, but definitely was not.

I bought one for my 54 in 2020 from a seller on ebay. I don't remember the seller. It was identical to stock.
If your sender is working OK just use that in the new tank.
I bought a new tank for my 55 from LMC last summer. Everything seemed to be the same as the factory tank.
I did not put a sending unit in my tank. Instead opted for a “farmer fix” guage. However, the cutout and screw pattern seemed correct to accept the sending unit.
You will also have to reuse your elbow fitting that connects the fuel line to the tank.
I bought one from NPD- went down and picked it up at their Michigan warehouse. Fit fine. I think they are all manufactured from one place ( prolly China!) so I would shop for best price.
Bought mine from LMC for my 54 F100 and the sending unit fit fine. I just looked on the web site and they do not have a adapter for the sending unit so that is a good sign.
Might be a good time to paint the new tank with anti-rust paint since you will be changing it out. Whish I had....
If Bob Drake is still selling them, they are excellent quality!
My experience with a Bob Drake replacement tank for my '40 Ford is exactly why I started this post. After the experience with the Drake tank in my '40 that is probably the last place I would consider buying a tank.
If anyone has bought a Drake tank for a '55 F-250 I'd love to hear their thoughts on it.
I think I got mine from Tanks Inc, although it could have been Mid fifty. It is a steel tank and the original sender fits perfectly and the tank mounted with no problems. Getting the feed line from the fuel pump connected was a bit of a bear but I think that is the same with the stock tank. My feed line wasn't perfectly bent to the correct angle so that was as probably it.

That's it! I bought mine from Tanks, Inc!!! Found them on eBay. And no issues.
I bought a tank from them for my '78 camaro as well and it fit perfectly.
Always buy their tanks directly from them. They tend to be better priced....except maybe from Summit Racing b cause they are really good about returns if necessary.

I made this mistake when replacing the tank on my '55 F500 a couple of years ago. I would like to revisit this at some point, does anybody know where to source these elbow fittings that connects the line to the tank? If not, does anybody know the thread pitch or just how they did it? I had quite the time getting one to thread properly.

Wild guess that the thread pitch is a standard. I am guessing it is an NPT thread and if you call Tanks inc they will tell you what the thread pitch is and maybe sell you the elbow.
