well, I screwed up trying to remove my distributor so I could replace the push rod cover gasket on my '66 F250.
On the 4 cylinder engines I'm more familiar with it's a matter of removing the locking plate and unscrewing it as its pulled upwards.
After removing the locking tab I found it very difficult to twist the distributor and was only able to pull it up just beyond the rubber o-ring. I thought it needed just a little more tug so I tried to wedge it upwards with a prybar. I was pretty shocked when i broke a tab off the distributor...
Before I try to move it back and forth with a pipe wrench, what am I missing. I looked below the distributor at what appeared to be an allen head set screw but I could not move what's in there. I'm starting to think it is merely a broken oiler port.
I've sprayed Kroil on the distributor shaft but no improvement. This is aluminum on cast iron, I hope it's not galled in place. I don't recall this kind of difficulty on my other engines.
Put antiseize on the housing where it fits in the block.
When I turned wrenches in Florida in the 70’s, I ran into a lot of stuck distributors. I’ve had to heat the boss in the block with a cutting torch, then dribble diesel fuel on everything while it’s still smoking hot. I have broken my share, used a pipe wrench to crack them loose.
Work it up and down while spraying it down with the penetrating oil of your choice. It will eventually surrender.
