Diesel Filters -i made the mistake you don't have to
Ford 2020 F-25 6.7L
In my infinite wisdom, i attempted to drain the Diesel water separator, but my brain was shut that day . WHY ..because i had a FULL tank of Diesel and after draining 4 1/2 gallons ,the light bulb lit up .
I WAS SIPHONING THE TANK . never walk away from a draining water separator filter (lucky it was a 5-gal bucket) ...DAHHHHH
So the next step , after i closed the drain was to use all the Diesel till i reached only 1/4 tank.
I parked the truck in my driveway NOSE UP , (slanted driveway) and opened the 3 engine Diesel fuel filter lines first. Then went under and started the Water separator draining.
Low and behold only about 1 to 1-1/2 quarts drained and then stopped completely.
Replaced both filters and no leaks. Lesson learned
BTW..... Ford had some trouble with the FD-4625 engine filters. They did not take the engine heat very well and some leaked ...MINE INCLUDED. Lucky the leak was slow and smelly.
The latest replacement series FD-4647 is stronger and takes the heat better.
2/20/26 additional thought to ponder............. what broke the siphon effect. Was it the 1/4 tank of diesel and the driveway slant .....or was it the fact that that i broke suction by opening all 3 connections at the engine compartment diesel filter ...your thoughts ??

--cup at most you are referring to only water ? .......i'm not talking about a CUP OF WATER . i mean the Diesel gas tank holding 34 gallons.
Opening the top filter connections first made the difference, but doing the job on a low tank level is still a good idea.
I like the camper quote! Hard to hit a moving target!
