Stupid Marketplace Edge Tuner Has Me Stranded In My 02 7.3 Excursion
Today I met a lady who had a Edge programmer model 27512 supposedly fits 1995-2003 7.3s, the only reason I wanted it was I’m chasing a problem with my temp gauge and I saw where I could leave it plugged in while driving and it would show Engine Oil Temp, transmission temp, and a few more things so I figured for 50.00 it would be perfect until I get my gauge figured out, I’ve replaced the cluster, temp sensor and checked the wiring to the firewall so far and still no temp gauge. On with the Edge programmer I have never used one but read where if it was vin locked to another vehicle it would not work on mine so I figured plugging it in would tell me if it was married to another vehicle or not. I met the lady and plugged the edge in to my Excursion and it immediately said Erasing memory, then about 15 seconds later it said cycle the key which I did, then it said programming which took about 1 minute, after that it popped up on the edge screen and said PCM Recovery complete remove tuner. It never said vin locked, never gave any options are anything, I removed the tuner and now my theft light is rapidly blinking and Excursion will not start, I’m broke down at a Walmart/Murphy gas station. Does anyone have any idea what I’ve done to my excursion by plugging in that Junk Edge and what do I have to do to fix it? I’ve tried plugging in my bi directional scanner and it will not even recognize my obd2 port, I tried plugging in a cheap little gear wrench obd2 scanner and it will light up but will not connect to obd2 port??? I’m so darn mad at myself for ever plugging that junk into my ride
When an Edge programmer causes a truck to not start, it is often due to a interrupted flash process, improper installation (like not disconnecting batteries), or a blown vehicle fuse. Here are the steps to troubleshoot and fix an Edge programmer (such as the Evolution CS2/CTS3 or Juice with Attitude) that is preventing your truck from starting:1. Check for Blown Fuses (Most Common) Locate Fuse Box: Check the fuse box under the hood and in the cabin.Specific Fuses: Look for blown fuses related to the OBDII port, the underhood light, or the dome light, as these often power the tuner.Fix: Replace any blown fuses, then attempt to start the truck. etrailer.com +42. Force a "Stock" Return or Update If the programmer failed during a tune update, the PCM may be corrupted. Use Fusion Software: Connect the Edge device to a computer and run the Edge Fusion software to ensure it has the latest firmware.Checksum Error Recovery: If the device displays a "checksum error," it means the flash failed.Connect the device to your computer via USB.Open Fusion software and check if it prompts you that "stock files do not match."Follow the prompts to download new stock files to the device.Take the device back to the truck, plug it in, and select "Return to Stock". YouTube +13. Proper Power CycleUnplug Device: Unplug the Edge programmer from the OBDII port.Battery Reset: Disconnect both truck batteries for at least 15–30 minutes to reset the PCM (Powertrain Control Module).Reconnect and Start: Reconnect the batteries and try to start the truck without the programmer plugged in. 4. Check Connections (Juice with Attitude Specific)If you have a "Juice with Attitude" model, ensure the module is properly connected to the engine bay sensors (MAP, crankshaft position, etc.). A poor connection can cause a "crank no-start" condition. 5. Contact Technical SupportIf the programmer is still not communicating or the truck will not start, the tuner may have locked the PCM. Edge Support: Call Edge technical support at (888) 360-EDGE. They can sometimes remotely help recover the device or guide you through a forced flash, though there may be a fee if the unit was not returned to stock properly before a dealer reflash. Edge ProductsImportant: Never unplug the Edge device while it is in the middle of programming or updating.
Pull the green plug and see what happens. If it is the problem, the truck should start. If not, you can eliminate it as a cause of your issue.
I suspect your marketplace device may have flashed junk to your PCM, but one step at a time.
So when using a tuner meant for, or designed based off of truck software, it freaks the Excursion's PATS system out.
Can you not use the tuners "return to stock" feature to load the OE tune back in?

Does simply unplugging the PATS module bypass it so the truck will start without a PATS key?
If so, that's freaking sweat. I HATE the PATS system, even bought the full paid version of Forscan trying to figure out a way to delete that crap (never figured it out, it would take weeks (maybe months) of manually decoding hexadecimal to even know if it could be done, so I quite trying, the whole juice being worth the squeeze thing).

I just never did the plugging it back in part. I think I plugged it back in once for a little while back in 2017. It made the theft light blink rapidly for the first 10 minutes or so after every start, then a steady slow blink, and that was too annoying.
I can't speak for every generation of truck, but my 2001 ex doesn't need that plugged in to start & run.
