I am currently having a problem with my truck. The overdrive Yellow light on the stick shifter will flash once in awhile as I am driving. During the time it is flashing, the truck will not shift, I have to pull to the side and turn off the truck. I flashed the code and it said "Speed Sensor Malfunction." After seeing the code I changed the VSS on the rear differential. It seemed to run fine for about a month and then the light came back on saying the same code. I then was told to change the VSS plug boot and so I did. It ran great for an hour and then the yellow light came back on causing the truck to not shift. Has anyone experienced the same thing and found the solution?
Reading codes with a scanner that is capable of reading trans codes will be your first step.
Forscan and an OBD2 dongle is the cheapest route.
Edit: totally missed the VSS code. You will have to trace wiring from and to the VSS sensor, also a bad speedo gauge can cause all sorts of shifting issues
