The front brake hoses on my '65 were/are split. I ordered new hoses from the local NAPA store, back in mid Dec.. At first glance they appeared correct, and I'm just now getting to the job. Trying to put the first one in, the hex part hits/rubs on the steering knuckle and I can't get a good enough grip with any wrench. The steel fitting part is too short. NAPA has a 30 return window, which I'm beyond.
Anyone else run into this and/or have a better source for the correct hose?
Well, I looked online and they all appeared the same. Couldn't get a dimension i needed. I took a die grinder to the spindle/king pin, and a grinder to an extra 5/8" wrench. Made it work. I hope it/they don't leak...
Yes they are. Even the stuff you once was able to depend on, top quality brands from reputable suppliers, are no longer trustworthy. I had to replace the fuel pump on my 87 F250 460. I bought the top quality Carter pump from NAPA. It was way smaller than the original and the body was made so close to the mount flange the bolts wouldn't go through the holes. I had to find shorter bolts to install it.
You aren't the first person to have this problem.
Here is a sentence or two from a 7-year-old thread. Maybe the AutoZone part is still the same.
Went and got another hose from autozone, buttoned her up, and no more leaks... I can confirm AUTOZONE hoses work! The hex was not touching the I beam, it was a few mm away from it like it should be.
by the way, you have to tighten the brake hose with the wheel cylinder bolts loose so that you have enough room for a wrench on the hose.
I found an old thread where (who else?) Bill NumberDummy listed the correct part number and application. Thank God for that guy.C5TZ-2078-A .. Front Brake Hose-Right/Left is the same / Approx: 17 3/4" long / Obsolete

After looking on RearCounter, there are about a dozen NOS ones apparently available . But, you never know if it’s updated or not. These should be genuine Ford, so if you’re not worried about age related problems with old rubber parts, this is a solution. I may order a pair for spares myself.
