Greetings all,
My 03 F250, 5.4L will fire for a second or so, but not continue running. I can hear the tank fuel pump run for a few seconds & stop, but it's not doing any good up front. The fuel rail Schrader valve just drools instead of spitting. I had downloaded the free version of Forscan & it tried to connect to the vehicle but would only offer me an import car to connect to. Then it wouldn't connect al all. I'm using an OBD Link EX, Model EX 101, (Rev?) 2.7.
I bought the Forscan upgrade but still no help. I looked at the back of the OBD receptacle in the truck & saw no obvious damage or push-back contacts.
I've searched FTE Forum posts & youtube & am checking the Fuel Pressure Regulator for an internal leak.
I forgot to mention that I had replaced the filter. When I did that I also turned the key to Run position & didn't get fuel out of the filter before hooking up the filter output end. So one guess is that the pump is failing, even though its motor is running.

I looked at the FPR after the pump's pressurization run & found no fuel or fuel smell. It is the circular body FPR with the vacuum port oriented vertically, so I'm gonna go back & dip it with the stem of a q-tip to make sure there's no internal leakage. It could be bypassing in its case without passing any to the outside.
Hmmm....
If you are hearing the in-tank pump, it "could" be working but the filter / sock is clogged or it is just working very weak.
You can probably guess the problem: If go through the trouble to get into the tank it makes no sense not to change the pump that will have a new filter on it.
Make sure you inspect the bottom of the tank inside so it is free of debris.
I would probably also disconnect the fuel filter again & shoot some air down the line in case there is a blockage.
I could be wrong, but if there was a problem with that fuel pump relay under the spare I don't think the pump kicks on if it is shot.
Might be worth a look.
